Gene Earl Crain, age 79, passed away on Friday, June 14, 2013 in Mercy Hospital in Springfield, MO. He was born on August 10, 1933 in Tyrone, MO. He married the love of his life, Mara Lorraine Swift on April 22, 1960 in Galloway, MO. He retired from the U.S. Navy after 30 years of service then retired from Lily Tulip/Sweetheart Cup as a pressman in 1996. Gene was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved fishing, boating and entertaining family and friends with his magic and loved attending all his grandkids sporting events. Gene had a loving heart and would profess his love for The Lord to anyone that would listen. His love for his family and country were also things he held dear to his heart. Heaven is being treated to a magic show today. He is preceded in death by his parents, Wesley and Edith Crain, a brother Clifton Crain and a sister Lodean Strader. Gene is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lorraine, his children Marlene (Greg) McCord and Alan Crain, his grandchildren Raymond (Ashley) McCord, Bryan McCord, Meagan McCord and Myles Ray McCord, sisters Pauline Wilbanks and Joy Gipson and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at 9:30 a.m., in Greenlawn Funeral Home South with burial following in Missouri Veterans Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home. The family would like to send a special thanks to the staff at Mercy Hospital on the 4th floor Intensive Care Unit. You all were a great comfort during a very tough time.
