Gene Myers, beloved husband, father, and grandfather was born August 12, 1922 in Green Forest Arkansas. He left this world peacefully and joined the lord on November 20, 2012. Gene was a livestock buyer in Springfield for MFA Packing Company for much of his working life, but joined his wife Ruth in 1964 to own and operate The Children’s Shop on the Glen Isle Shopping Center until retirement.
Gene enjoyed spending time with his family whether it was fishing on Table Rock Lake, watching his grandson’s sporting events, or traveling with his wife and family. He also loved to spend time with his close network of neighborhood friends. He volunteered countless hours at Wesley United Methodist Church. Through his passion for his church family, Gene served on church committees, organized and led his Sunday school class, was an active member of the Leo group, and assisted with the church newsletter. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and his wife of 65 years. He is survived by his three sons; JC Myers and wife Cathy, Tom Myers and wife Bridgett, David Myers and wife Karen; seven grandchildren, Michele Powers and husband Darren, Melissa Sportsman and husband Kenny, Duncan Myers, Ryan Myers, Brett Myers, Destiny Myers and Gary Myers; six great grandchildren, Michael McCollum, Tyler Powers, Kyle and Kayla Sportsman, Madison and William Myers; and several nieces and nephews.
