Gene Pierceall passed away at age 95 on February 1, 2023 in Springfield, MO. He was born Sept. 1, 1927 in Nevada, MO to Carl and Ola Pierceall, who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death were his wife of 48 years, Carol, and two brothers, Philip and Carl. He is survived by a son, Bill, of Springfield, a daughter Kim, and her husband Jim of Islamorada, FL, a grandson, Haden Browning, and several nieces and nephews. We also cannot forget his two very best four legged friends, Patience and Sugar.
He enjoyed fishing and golfing at Lake of the Ozarks. He was a past member of Twin Oaks Country Club, where he served two terms as President on their Board of Directors, Tan-Tar-A Golf Association, Chamber of Commerce, Rotary, Elks Lodge, and Happy Hollow Country Club in Omaha, NE.
Gene graduated from Nevada High School, where he participated in four sports, and the University of Missouri, with a Bachelor of Science and a Master’s degree. Prior to college, he served in the U.S Marine Corp. After college he coached high school football at Fulton, MO and Mt. Vernon, MO. In 1958 he moved to Joplin, MO and started the Boys Club of America as Executive Director. In 1962 he entered the insurance business with State Farm as an adjuster in Joplin, MO. After several years with State Farm he was hired as Executive Vice President of Operations for American National Property and Casualty Company in Springfield, MO in 1973. He was instrumental in starting ANPAC. In 1980 he was hired as President and CEO of Mutual of Omaha Property and Casualty Company and the Omaha Indemnity Company. In 1988 he retired and moved back to Springfield, MO. After two years of retirement he entered into a computer sales business with the Wiser Company, where he enjoyed working with the Wiser Family and all associates, especially Sarah Bargo. For the second time, he retired on August 31, 2010.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Humane Society of Southwest Missouri at 3161 W. Norton Road, Springfield, MO 65803 would be appreciated. Also, in lieu of visitation, a graveside service will be held on Monday February 6, 2023 at 11 am at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery. A celebration of life will follow at Scramblers restaurant at 1131 East Republic Road.
