George Gates Hamilton, age 86, passed to his heavenly home on August 22, 2022, in Springfield, MO. He was born on March 11, 1936, in Springfield, MO to Paul Albert and Mavis Gates Hamilton. George grew up in Strafford and Springfield, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother Lucille Holman Hamilton, stepbrother David Holman Hamilton, and sister Mary Louise Claassen. George leaves behind his wife of 40 years, Margie Marie Hamilton. He is survived by his children, George W. Hamilton, wife Cathy and Karen R. Burk by a previous marriage to Lucille Rogers. He is also survived by his stepbrothers, Robert Lee Hamilton, John Paul Hamilton, as well as, four grandchildren, nine great- grandchildren and nieces, nephews, and other extended family members. He graduated from Strafford High School in 1954, where he enjoyed playing basketball. After graduation, George went to work for the Missouri Department of Transportation (MODOT) and retired as a Senior Highway Designer with 38 years of service. While working at MODOT, he served in the Marine Reserves from 1954-1955. George enjoyed working on projects around the house, spending time on his computer, sports, and square dancing in his middle years. He was known to travel around to the many different sporting events of his grandchildren, filming their events for lasting memories. George also enjoyed creating extravagant greeting cards on his computer and had a profound passion for the Good Samaritan Boys Ranch. Visitation will be on Friday, September 2nd from 5-7 PM. The memorial service will be held at the Greenlawn Funeral Home North on Saturday, September 3rd at 10:00 AM. He will be laid to rest in the Greenlawn Cemetery North. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in George’s name to the Good Samaritan Boys Ranch, P.O. Box 617, Brighton, MO 65617.
Visitation will be Friday, September 2, 2022, from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Greenlawn Funeral Home North.
Funeral Services will be Saturday, September 3, 2022, 10:00 am, at Greenlawn Funeral Home North with burial following at Greenlawn Cemetery.
