Dr. George Griot of Springfield passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2013 in his home, at the age of 85. George was preceded in death by his father, Dr. George Griot, and his mother, Mary Joanna Griot. George was born on January 20, 1928 in Chadron, Nebraska. He graduated from Greenwood High School in 1944, and graduated from Kansas City Western Dental School in 1955. After he served in the army as a captain, he was a self-employed dentist for over 40 years. He married his wife, Dolores on August 6, 1949.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dolores Griot (Sullivan). 3 children, Mark and his wife Ellise; Lane and his wife Cindy; Neil and his wife Julie. 3 grandchildren, Corey Griot, Cameron Griot, and Lara Shotwell. 2 great-grandchildren, Zachary Shotwell and Autumn Shotwell.
He was an active member of the Sunset Church of Christ. He served as a deacon at the South National Church of Christ, with a focus on medical mission trips to Nicaragua with the East Grand Church of Christ. His hobbies included handball, which he received the championship of the Springfield singles and doubles handball in 1973. He enjoyed bowling for 30 years with Sherm Lollar Lanes, and he was an avid sportsman with tennis, racketball, and fishing.
A visitation is scheduled for Thursday, December 26, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Greenlawn Funeral Home South. The funeral service will be Friday, December 27, 2013 at 1 p.m. Interment will follow in White Chapel Memorial Gardens.
