Dr. Flock was an incredible teacher of God’s Word and Theology. I will always remember as we neared the close of a semester: “The end for which we have come has arrived.” He beat me countless times at ping-pong, with the oft used phrase “one each apiece altogether the same score.” He will always be one of my favorite professors, and a shining example of one who truly lived his faith. I was blessed to be a student of a Godly man.

Doctor Flokstra was an important part of our preparation for ministry at CBC and an invaluable resource thereafter. His Minor Prophets course was tremendous, and his constant ribbing of us when one of us scored higher than the other on a test entertained the class! Ruth and family, please know that the prayers we offered during his illness will continue during this time of change. We celebrate with you that he is once again whole in mind and body and is most likely organizing all the information in heaven.

Thinking of you, Ruth, Brittany, and all the rest of the family during this time. Flok was one of those very special mentors who became a friend during my time at CBC. He taught with passion, but was very real and honest. He was someone who wrestled with doctrine, and his brilliant mind found its own path through it. I admired him deeply, and loved the streak of irreverence that was so refreshing. I talked him into coming to Lincoln, NE to do a teaching series at the church I served, and we spent some idyllic days scouring the thrift stores in Lincoln for rare book treasures. His vivid, rare colors are woven into the tapestry of my life, and I am grateful for that. Thhe world has lost a bit of sparkle now that he's moved on. Hugs all around.

His class was the highlight of my week. His humor and wit was legendary as was his commitment to knowing God in all His facets and rightly dividing the truth as a good workman should. His legacy will be eternal. I am privileged to have known him.

I'll never forget walking into Doc's office to tell him that we had won a cruise for our honeymoon and would be missing several days classes as we headed to the Bahamas. He turned to us, and said, "This calls for a drink!" Opened his mini-fridge and pulled out Snapples for all of us. He will be missed.
