A worship service to honor the life of Gladys Moen will be held on Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at 10:00 am in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens on National Avenue.
Gladys Moen, 88, died June 29 in Springfield, Mo. She was born Aug.1, 1930, in Hosmer, South Dakota, the daughter of Rudolph and Lydia DeWald. Gladys attended North Central Bible College, where she worked for the Billy Graham Crusade. She had many fond memories of the charismatic evangelist eating cookies and telling jokes to his staff. While at North Central, she met her husband, Rev. Ernest J. Moen. They graduated in 1953 in Minneapolis and later married October 24, 1953 in Fosston, Minnesota.
Together with her husband, they ministered at several Assemblies of God churches in Glenwood, Minnesota, Menomonee and Milwaukee, Wis. They pastored in Rockford Illinois from 1974 to 1984. “Gladie” was also known as a patient listener to the members of the congregation, and would often spend hours on the telephone distributing advice to those in need. Although “Gladie” said she liked to stay away from the spotlight and let her husband take the stage, she eventually became a much sought after speaker addressing many Christian women’s groups.
In 1984, she and her husband moved to Carlinville, Illinois, where Rev. Moen became Illinois District Superintendent until retiring in 1996. Gladys enjoyed travelling with her husband to several different continents and vacation spots in Colorado, California and Arizona. One of her favorite trips was discovering her German roots in the Ukraine near Odessa. During retirement, the couple moved to Sun City West. But after her husband’s death in 2008, Gladys moved to Maranatha Village in Springfield, Mo, where she enjoyed the friendship of many she had known for decades.
Gladys is survived by her two daughters, Judith Moen Stanley of Atlanta, Ga and Jacqulyn Renee Moen of Los Angeles, California; grandchildren Phillip Modesitt, Greta Modesitt de Olano and Carter and Olivia Evans, and two great grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Rev. Ernest J. Moen Chair of Preaching at North Central University, 910 Elliott Ave, South, Minneapolis, MN 55404.
