Glenda D. McCullough (Upton) was born on November 8, 1930. She grew up in Gainesville, Missouri. After being courted by Alva P. McCullough and accepting his marriage proposal, Glenda and Alva were married on May 15th, 1948, in Mt. Home, AR. Alva and Glenda celebrated over 73 years of marriage before Alva’s passing March 14, 2022. When Alva decided that he was going to teach they left Gainesville to further Alva’s education. Glenda would work and help support the family as Alva continued his college education. In 1950 while studying at the University of Missouri their first child was born, Marsha. After Alva received his master’s degree the family moved back to Springfield and in the summertime would go back to the University of Missouri with Marsha in tow, then in early 1954 along comes Terry the second child. With Marsha and Terry in tow, the summer of 1954 was spent in Columbia where Alva finished his specialist degree. After graduating from the University of Missouri in 1954 Glenda and Alva returned to make Springfield home until Alva’s passing in 2022. Glenda worked at the Assemblies of God Headquarters as administrative assistant to Joe Greene and Gunny Sachs. When Alva retired from teaching Glenda continued to working for the next few years until Alva convinced her to retire to the life of travel. With over 35 years at AG Head Quarters Glenda retired to travel the United States driving to Alaska with Alva’s brother Gene and his wife Iva, going to Hawaii and Maine and all the states in between. When Glenda wasn’t traveling, she volunteered at Skaggs/Cox Branson Hospital for over twenty years. One of the greatest joys for Glenda was spending time with her grand and great grandchildren who affectionally called her Meme/grandma. Glenda was a devout Christian and her presence brought comfort and solace to all who knew her, and her unwavering faith in God was a source of guidance and strength for many. Glenda was a long-time charter member of Life 360 Church.
The family would like to express our gratitude to Amada Senior Care for the excellent care given over the last few years. We especially want to extend our deep appreciation for the excellent care given by Amanda and the Access Hospice nurses Misty and Debbie.
Glenda is preceded in death by her Husband of 73 years Alva P. McCullough, parents Everett J. and Stella J. Upton (Garrison) and sister Leota S Mahan. Glenda is survived by her children, Marsha (Gary) Norcross, Sr. and Terry (Tracey) McCullough, six grandchildren, Gary (Dina) Norcross, Jr, Jason (Karla) McCullough, Krista (Aaron) Weaver, Sara (Caleb) Carlin, Justin (Diane) Smith, Taylor (Taylor) Triplett and 14 great grandchildren. Glenda served the Lord faithfully all her life. She was the best Mother, Meme and Grandma anyone could ask for. Her warm heart and gentle spirit will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
