Gordon C. Appleton, 89, of Springfield, passed away Thursday, January 23, 2014 at Webco Manor, in Marshfield. He was born December 4, 1924, in Wenona, IL ,. He was a member of the Lutheran Church. He proudly served in the U.S. Army-Air Corps during W.W.II where he was a decorated member of a B-17 crew. He worked for G.M.A.C. for 35 years, and retired as the Springfield branch manager.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Martin Appleton and Alice Appleton a brother Glenn Appleton and a son Gordon Jr. He is survived by his wife Dorothy, daughter Janice Hedding and her husband Kris, a son David Appleton, and his wife Michele, a sister Greta Kurrle and her husband Robert, five grandchildren: Ben Hedding, Anna Anderson, Jesse Hedding, Dylan and Coby Appleton, one great-grandchild: Faye Anderson, he was also survived by several beloved nieces and nephews. Gordon will be remembered as a great husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
