Grace (Magee) Dills, 95, Springfield, departed this life Saturday, April 16, 2011.
Mrs. Dills was born Jun 10, 1915, in Sugar City, CO. She earned her RN degree from Beth-El Hospital School of Nursing in Colorado Springs, CO, and practiced nursing in New Orleans, LA, where she met her loving husband, Dr. Joseph Newton Dills.
Dr. and Mrs. Dills relocated to Springfield, MO in 1946, where he practiced medicine as a General Surgeon until 1972, and where the couple raised three sons.
Mrs. Dills became quite accomplished at golf, having won several amateur tournament awards, was a prolific painter of water color landscape art that graces the homes of her children and grandchildren and became an avid genealogist, having traced the history of both her and her husband’s families through many generations past. After enjoying retirement in Cedar Key, FL, she and husband, Joe, returned to their Springfield home in 1994.
Mrs. Dills was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Joseph Newton Dills, in 1997, by her parents, Charles Thomas Magee and Svea (Backstrom) Magee, of Colorado Springs, CO, and by siblings Roy Thomas Magee, Juanita Edwina (Magee) Kramer, Edith Leona (Magee) Jagoda of Colorado Springs, CO and John Lee Magee of Phoenix, AZ.
She is survived by her sons and their wives, John Joseph and Jeanie, Rolla, MO, James Charles and Janet, Springfield, and Richard Allen, Somerset, KY; grandchildren Angela Kristin, O’Fallon, MO, John Michael, Brentwood, TN, Joseph Charles, Springfield, Erica Elizabeth, New York, NY, Ashley Lorette, New York, NY and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, at St. Paul United Methodist Church with Rev. Carol Ann Chilton officiating. Burial will follow Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, in the funeral home.
