Harold D. Reynolds, age 94 of Springfield, MO, passed away June 1, 2026. He was born on February 5, 1932, in rural Bolivar, MO. He graduated from Bolivar High School in 1949 and worked at the Bolivar Rexall Drug Store until, at the age of 19, during the Korean War, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps.
He saw action in Korea at the infamous Punch Bowl, Luke the Gook’s Castle, and the Inje River Bottoms. He was awarded the Combat Action Ribbon, the Navy Presidential Unit Citation, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal (with two battle stars), the Korean Presidential Unit Citation, the United Nations Korean Service Medal, and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal. He earned a battlefield promotion at the Inje River Bottoms to sergeant on March 1, 1952.
He is a lifetime member of the Howard S. Keeling Post 138 at Bolivar and a member of Ozark Mountain Region Chapter 8 of the Korean War Veterans Association.
In December 1954, he was appointed to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, where he faithfully served the people of troop D for over 35 years.
In May 2007, Harold was selected to create a narrative video about his experiences in the Korean War for the Veterans History Project at the Library of Congress. It is now available there for his grandchildren.
Since 1975, he has been a member of Hillcrest Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon, elder, and trustee. Preceding him in death are his parents. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Mary Jo Buitt Reynolds; his son and daughter-in-law, David and Melisa; three lovely grandchildren, Ashley, her husband Josiah Prieto, Matthew Reynolds, Maddison, her husband Stephen Hodson; and one great-grandchild, Josilyn Prieto.
Visitation and services to be held at Hillcrest Presbyterian Church, 818 E. Norton Road, Springfield, MO on June 5th, 2026.
Visitation is at 10:00 a.m.
Services at 11:00 a.m.
Burial to be at Greenlawn Cemetery with full military rites.
