Harold Leroy Burch, age93, of Springfield, MO, died Saturday, September 1, 2012. Harold was born December 19,1918 in Springfield, the son of Rancey and Maggie(Vaughn) Burch.
He worked as a welder in the California shipyards during W.W.II, returning to Springfield and working at Taystee Bread Company,(American Baking Company), until his retirement. He then worked for Second Baptist Church as a custodian for several years before retiring again. Harold’s favorite hobby was fishing. He was also known for his great sense of humor which will be missed. He was a member of Second Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 59 years Mary Elizabeth (Bollinger); son Scotty Burch; sisters Freda Ellis, Fern Goodman, and Mildred Lane; and an infant brother Merle.
He is survived by a sister Wilma Lane of Springfield; a brother and his wife Ralph and Darlene Burch of Springfield; a son Terry and wife Margie of Springfield; daughters Brenda and husband Gordon Ruggles of Springfield; Shirley and husband Terry Thurman of Strafford; eight grand-children, Cheryl, Kevin, Julie, Stephen, Mark, Wendy, Nicholas and Douglas; thirteen great-grandchildren; and many friends.
Visitation will be Tuesday, September 4, 2012 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Greenlawn North Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at 10:00 a.m., with interment in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Online condolences can be made at www.greenlawnfuneralhome.com.
