Harriet Evelyn Medlin was born September 8, 1917, the daughter of John and Harriet Woodgate Cheyne. She passed away Wednesday, January 26, 2011, in the Willow Dale Wellness Village in Battle Creek, Iowa, at the age of 93.
Harriet was born in Chicago, Illinois. The family moved to Springfield, Missouri, where Harriet attended school. On March 15, 1936, she was united in marriage to Raymond Medlin and spent her life as a dedicated homemaker.
Upon retirement the couple moved to Springfield, Missouri, where they became active members of the National Heights Baptist Church and enjoyed a wide circle of friends. They relocated to Schleswig, Iowa, in 1999 where they joined the United Church of Christ and could live closer to family.
Harriet was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond; two brothers, John Cheyne and James Cheyne; and one sister, Margaret Bartlett. Survivors include two daughters, Carol Yokshas, of Valparaiso, Indiana, and Fran Mielitz and her husband, Lauren, of Schleswig; one son, Bruce Medlin and his wife Bee, of San Jose, California; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; plus many of relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, February 2, 2011, in Greenlawn Funeral Home North, Springfield, Mo. Burial will follow in the Missouri Veteran’s Cemetery in Springfield. Visitation if from 9 a.m. until service time in teh funeral home.
