Helen Marie (Bonnie) Mecum
Bonnie was born in Willow Brook, California on November 3, 1930, the daughter of Andrew and Helen Swanson. After a short illness, she passed away on Wednesday, July 31st surrounded by a family who loved her dearly.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50+ years, James M. Mecum, brothers Jim and Frank Swanson. Bonnie leaves behind her two children, Patricia Hedrick (Bill) and James Timothy Mecum (Brenda) and grandchildren, Cara, Robb, and Kristin, and great grandchildren, Garrett, Brett, Bowen, Addisyn, and Tayla.
She enjoyed car travel with Jim, and they logged many miles as they traveled the U.S.
Bonnie owned and operated Bonnie’s Bargain Bric-a-Brac for 30+ years where she enjoyed having coffee available to sit and chat with her loyal customers. She was creative, artistic, sewed, upholstered, and fearlessly tackled new tasks.
She belonged to the Elks Lodge for 40+ years and played cards with dear friends. She loved being surrounded by people and will always be remembered for her infectious laugh. She was a charter member on the Board of the Southside Senior Center and was dedicated to fundraising.
A memorial service will be held at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery on Monday, August 5, at 11:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Family Violence Center, 519 Cherry St, 65806.
