Henry Lavone Stevens, 91, died Saturday, February 24, 2024 at Magnola Square in Springfield, MO surrounded by his loving family.
Henry was born September 22, 1932 in Springfield, MO to Icey and Taylor Stevens. Due to his mother’s illness, he was raised by his Aunt Laura and Uncle Bob Wilson in Wishart, MO.
He married Shirley Jean Bolin on August 3, 1956 and was blessed with four sons: Steven, Michael, Scott, and Rodney
Henry worked as a machinist is Wichita, KS. Then moved to Springfield and worked at Paul Muellers before starting his own dump trucking business. With his knowledge of trucking he went to work for Conco Quarry, holding many positions there, until he retired after 20 years.
Henry had a fun loving sense of humor. He loved his family fiercely and gave the best bear hugs. He enjoyed traveling with his family in his RV, riding motorcycles with his sons and relaxing at the annual Man Camp gathering. He loved boating and teaching his grandkids to ski and swim. He was a man of faith and belonged to Faith Baptist Church since 1972.Henry was a member of Gate of the Temple #422 and part of Scottish Rite 32° Abou Ben Adams Shriner since 1972. Henry was also a member of the teamsters 245.
Henry is survived by his wife, Shirley Stevens. His sons Steven (Pamela) Stevens, Scott (Christy) Stevens, and Rodney (Nancy) Stevens; seven grandchildren and their partners; fourteen great-grandchildren; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his son Michael Stevens, his sister Delta Williams and his brothers Aruther and Fred Stevens.
Visitation Thursday, February 29 at 2pm followed by the funeral service at 3pm at Greenlawn North in Springfield. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude.
