Iona Wilson Murray, 100, passed away October 30th at Ravenwood Assisted Living after a short illness. Iona was born September 22, 1911 to Roy B. and Nellie McElhany Short in Greene County, Missouri. She was raised on a farm which is now part of the Wilson Creek Battlefield.
She married Howard (Hack) Wilson in 1935 and lived in the Elwood area. Howard passed away in 1981. She later married Wayne Murray in 1986 then moved to Aurora, Missouri, where she lived for 21 years. She moved to Springfield in 2006 and lived with her daughter and son-in-law until October 13, 2011.
Iona was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Sybil Hosey, husbands, Howard Wilson, and Wayne Murray. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jenelle and Bill Buxton of Springfield, granddaughter Stacey and husband Jim Lovan of Springfield, and a host of neices and nephews.
Iona was a member of First Christian Church of Aurora.
Services will be held at Greenlawn Funeral Home South on November 2, 2011 at 1:30 pm with visitation at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow at White Chapel Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Springfield. 1538 S. Enterprise. The family would like to thank the staff of Ravenwood, and HPC for their care and kindness.
