On October 1st, Jack Carr Purvis, devoted husband, father, grandfather and disciple of Christ began building his heavenly Scout Troop and serving others with our God in heaven. Jack’s earthly life ended after a sudden cardiac emergency with a dedicated team of care givers at Cox South in Springfield, MO.
Jack was the ultimate example of service to God, his family, and to all of humanity. He always put the needs of others ahead of his own and was famous for building or fixing anything. He never knew a stranger and gave anything he had to help others. Some of his most enjoyable days were spent mentoring the youth of Branson Missouri, through the Boy Scouts and Sea Scouts. He loved instilling values, and character, and watching young people enjoy the outdoors, while seeing them mature into leaders and successful adults who ultimately would serve others as Jack had served them. Jack lived out the Boy Scout Slogan, “Do a Good Turn Daily” and often did several good turns each day.
Jack and his lifetime partner, soul mate, and devoted wife Linda, were dedicated partners of the Bill Glass Champions for Life Prison Ministry, completing over 50 different prison visits, across the United States, recruiting countless other “teammates” to join them in changing the lives of hundreds of individuals who would not have otherwise been given the message of hope and eternal life offered through Jesus Christ.
Jack was born in Kansas City, Missouri, preceded in death by his parents Merrill and Ruby Purvis and Brother Merrill Junior. He is survived by his wife, Linda, who in August, celebrated 49 years together in marriage. Jack and Linda have three sons, who were the ultimate source of pride and joy, along with eight grandchildren. Scott, his wife Karen, Taylor and Tanner of Mooresville NC ; Alan, his wife Dara, Bailey, Ally, and Benjamin of Charleston, South Carolina; and Shawn, his wife Jill, Riley, Paige, and Cooper, of Warrensburg, MO.
A celebration of Jack’s life will be on Friday, October 5th at 3:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Branson Missouri, with a reception following.
