The United States lost a hero
On Wednesday July 27, 2022, James A. Lowe of Springfield, MO passed away. James (a.k.a. Jim, Butch, or Hobo) was born on September 15, 1946. Jim was known for his service to others and his giving heart. He served 22 years in the United States Air Force where he retired as a Master Sergeant, and then went on to retire from the United States Postal Service. He served others through AA as a champion and sponsor, in Combat Veterans where he honored his fellow veterans, and by visiting prisons in the area speaking with inmates about a better future.
Jim was married to Brenda Lowe for forty-six years before she passed away in March of 2017. They had a son, Dean Lowe and a daughter, Michele Douglas. Jim later remarried and enjoyed his last years with wife, Gracie Lowe.
He loved to spend time riding his motorcycle, driving across country in his RV, and most importantly enjoying his grandchildren, who were the sun and the moon to him. Jim never “beat around the bush” always saying what was on his mind, and later in his life found faith and a calmness in his life that was a gift to him and others.
Jim is survived by his wife Gracie, his son Dean and his wife Donna Lowe, his daughter Michele, and her husband Tom Douglas. Several grandchildren including Kia and her husband Fritz Vasquez, Nick Lowe, Kaitlyn Leister, Ali Gordon, Tyler Douglas, and Will Douglas, great-grandchildren Freddy and Oliver Vasquez. By marriage, he is also survived by daughter Sara Schuh and her husband Reggie, and son Caleb Cook along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services will be at Greenlawn Funeral home at 3540 E. Seminole St. Springfield, MO on Thursday August 4th. Visitation will be from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM with services following. Private graveside service with full military honors will be at Missouri Veterans Cemetery.
