James “Jim” Charles Wright, age 83, passed away on May 25, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on January 28, 1943, in Berryville, Arkansas, to Rex and Gladys Wright.
Jim grew up in Berryville and Harrison, Arkansas. As a young man, he followed his parents as they traveled to Springfield, Missouri, for work, eventually making Springfield his own home. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War.
Throughout his life, Jim was known as a hardworking and faithful man. He held many jobs, including working for MD Pneumatics building large production equipment. He later moved to Sleeper, Missouri, where he worked in a furniture store and pastored an Assemblies of God church for a time. Upon returning to Springfield, Jim drove a school bus route, a job that would unexpectedly change his life.
While driving his route, Jim met Sussette, who believed he would be a perfect match for her mother, Rose. She brought Jim a photo of Rose, and Jim sent one of himself in return. Before long, the two met for coffee and quickly fell in love. Jim and Rose were married on October 12, 1984, in an intimate ceremony held in a small section of Drury Chapel, beginning 41 wonderful years together.
Music was a cherished part of their life together, Rose played the piano, Jim played the guitar, and together they sang. They enjoyed sitting at the front of their home watching the birds, especially the hummingbirds and a cherished pair of cardinals. Jim was a cowboy at heart and loved riding horses with Rose. They also enjoyed target practice outside the city and occasional trips to the shooting range, including the former range in the basement of Bass Pro. When the television was on, Jim could almost always be found watching a western.
Above all, Jim was a man of deep faith. He was constantly reading scripture and sharing God’s Word with his family, living out his beliefs through love, service, and quiet strength.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Rex and Gladys Wright; his daughter, Carmelle Cheri Hogan-Ngozi; his siblings, Dorothy Crawford, Jane Rost, and Larry Wright; and his nephew, Dean Rost.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Rose Wright; his son, Daniel Wright and wife CeCe; his stepdaughters, Sussette Hogan and Christina Wilson and husband Jack; his brother, Floyd Wright; his niece, LeeAnn Crawford; his grandchildren, Jasmyn Sevenstien, McKayla Wright, Corbyn Wright, and Casen Wright; his great-grandson, Eccho Wright; his step-grandchildren, Brett Van Hogan, Cieraa Patterson, Maria Cheri Ince, Malyshia Beth Hogan, Abrionna Nicole Hogan, Joshua Wayne Wilson, and Jacob Nathanael Wilson; his step-great-grandchildren, Mekhi De’Angelo Triplett and Milia Rose Triplett; and many other cherished family members.
Jim will be remembered for his unwavering faith, gentle spirit, love of family, and the steady example he set for all who knew him.
