James F. Dickey, age 83, of Springfield, MO, passed away Sunday, July 24, 2011 at St. John’s Hospital. He was born September 10, 1927, in Tulsa, OK to Boyd and Alice (Dickens) Dickey. He was a member of the Hamlin Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Marine Reserves. He spent his early years working for Merchants Ice Company. He owned and Operated Dickey’s D-X Service Station, for many years. He also retired from Cox Medical Center, engineering department. He loved playing baseball, softball, quail hunting and wood0working. He was a MSU Bears Men’s Basketball season ticket holder for 56 years. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal Fan.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Gladys Mae (Gerhart) Dickey, his son Mike B. Dickey and his wife Judy, his daughter Pat Dennis and her husband Kevin, all of Springfield. His grandchildren; Jason, RIck and Rhonda Castalon. He is also survived by seven great grandchildren; Ryan, Reagan, Lauren, Michaela and J.P. Dickey and Gabbie and Gus Dennis.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, July 28, 2011 at Greenlawn Funeral Home North, Springfield, MO with Rev. Calvin Maberry and Rev. Pat Findley officiating. Burial will be held in White Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Wednesday, at Greenlawn Funeral Home North.
