James G. Hofbauer
Age: 79
Passed away March 4, 2011 at 9 pm in Ozarks Community Hospital, Springfield, MO from diabetes and complications. He had been in poor health for several years.
Born May 12, 1931 in Toledo, Ohio to Michael G. Hofbauer and Beatrice (Doyle) Hofbauer, he moved to Temperance, MI where he graduated from high school. He attended the University of Maryland, Baltimore, MD.
Jim served his country in the US Air Force and was based at Furstenfeldbrook and Bitburg, Germany. He was air force security and was involved in search and rescue for downed pilots.
He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees, Notre Dame and Chicago Bears football.
Jim was a forty year member of Abou Ben Adhem Shrine, Scottish Rite, and the Greeters Unit. He loved working toward Shrine goals for helping burned and disabled children, shrine social activities, playing cards, and anything outdoors. He earned many kudos as a Greeter including Greeter of the Year 1975, continuing honors for his work on the annual Cadillac Parties, and for writing and editing the newsletter for several years.
He maintained a successful business in the mobile home industry in Springfield, MO for over thirty three years.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Judith of Springfield, MO; children Tony of Tampa, FL; Bruce and Jill of Oregon, OH; several grandchildren, many cousins, brother-in-law Richard Youngs, all of Toledo, OH, and his best buddies, Bandit and Emily. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Lee who was killed in service, and uncles, aunts, and cousins.
There will be no services and inurnment will take place at a later date to be announced. Memorials may be sent to C.A.R.E. 1328A W. Sunshine, Springfield, MO.
