James J. Gaston, 87, Springfield, Mo, departed this life on September 9, 2011, in Springfield, Mo.
He was born February 11, 1923, in Franklin, La.
He served in World War II and retired after 20 years in the U.S. Navy.
He was later employed at Kendall Manufacturing in Barrington, Il.
James was married on September 2, 1945, in Patricia Gaston.
James was a volunteer driver for the Cancer Society and Meals on Wheels for 10 years.
He was active in the startup of a local support group for larungotomees.
He purchased and maintained several electrolarynx, and went to Springfield hospitals and taught patients how to use them.
He square danced with 2 local groups Solos and Rangers.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Patricia, four brothers and one sister.
Survivors include, One son, Stan Gaston, Springfield, Mo, One daughter, Jonnae Benzel, Itasca, Il, and One grandson, Jeffrey L. Inman, Austin, Tx.
Memorial services will be at 10:00 A.M. Friday, September 16, 2011, in Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 4717 S. Farm Road 135 (Golden) Springfield, Mo 65810.
