James R. Hornaday Jr., 79, of Springfield passed away Monday January 23, 2012. Jim was born November 16, 1932 in Dayton Ohio. Jim was married to Jane Hornaday in 1954 and enjoyed 48 years together before her death in 2002. Jim remarried in 2004 and is survived by his wife Thelma Hornaday, all of his children Lisa Swanson, Betsy Dimmel and her husband Brad, Richard Hornaday and his wife Teresa, one stepson Ray Cunio and his wife Carol, and all of his four grandchildren.
Jim was active his entire life endeavoring to improve the safety of rail travel and freight through consulting on metal failures and in his support and leadership in numerous rail industry committees. In addition to his technology and industry passions, he recently experienced eternal spiritual joy through his joining the Catholic Church.
Visitation will be held Friday January 27 in Greenlawn Funeral Home SOUTH at 6 PM with prayer service at 7 PM. Funeral Mass will be held in Immaculate Conception Church Saturday January 28 at 10 AM.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Kitchen at 1630 N. Jefferson or St. Vincent DePaul.
