It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of James Ralph Macdonald, affectionately known as Jim, who departed this life on October 19, 2025, at the age of 80. Born on September 1, 1945, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Jim lived a life of purpose and dedication. He resided in Springfield, Missouri, where he made a lasting impact on his family, friends, and community.
Jim graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business, and had a successful career as the V.P. at Briggs and Stratton. Later, he ventured on a new career as a Mechanical Engineer for many years. Jim kept busy with side jobs remodeling construction, and carpentry work as well. His intelligence, dedication, and humility shone through all he did. He was a dedicated member of the Navy National Guard, serving his country with honor.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Jim was a man of many interests. He was a Patriot Life Member, at the Patron Level of the NRA. An expert sharpshooter, he found joy in marksmanship, and shared his passion for classic cars with friends and family. Those who knew him appreciated his generous spirit, his talent for cooking, and subtle sense of humor. He was especially renowned for preparing the perfect steak, often sharing meals and laughter with loved ones. After eating his perfectly prepared smoked turkey, no other turkey feast was measurable to the comparison of his.
Jim always had a project going, and kept at it until he was satisfied with the completion. If a break was needed, he could always be persuaded with a peanut butter and chocolate treat of any kind, and seeing a face of someone whom he loved. He was often found tinkering with a vehicle in his garage, or simply enjoying the outdoors with a cup of coffee. He enjoyed time sitting on the porch with his wife Ruth, birdwatching, laughing at their silly dogs, and simply listening to all of Ruth’s shenanigans.
Jim was a Christian man that lived out his faith and beliefs. He was an active member with his wife Ruth at Pleasant Home Baptist Church in Springfield, Missouri. He lived a life that he enjoyed and savored every opportunity he had with each person he loved. His love for his wife, children, and grandchildren was unconditional. He lived in the moment, and cherished every moment he had with those he loved. He placed Philippians 4: 4-9 into action and lead this out by example teaching this to his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ralph Robert Macdonald and Dorothy Esther (Thorpe) Chambers.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Ruth Macdonald, and his cherished children, Sheila Wappler (Dale), Yvonne Nord-Williams (James Williams), Dennis Nord, and Chris Flores (Andres); a sister Mary Hall (Jeffrey); as well as 16 grandchildren Alyssa Wappler, Justen Williams, Quinn Williams, Valerie Williams, Dylan Roberts, Erik Nord, Tiffany Nord, David Nord, Liahna Nord, Charlise Nord, Logan Flores, Hailey Flores, Ashton Flores, Trinity Flores, Cody Flores and Sam Lutz; and many great-grandchildren. He was a constant source of love and support for his family, always encouraging them through life’s ups and downs.
Funeral services will be held on October 25, 2025, at Pleasant Home Baptist Church. The visitation will start at 12:00 PM, followed by the funeral service at 1:00 PM. After the services, Jim will be cremated.
In this time of mourning, we invite family and friends to come together to honor and celebrate Jim’s remarkable life and the memories he created. His kindness and love will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
