James William Nordstrom, February 24, 1923 – January 23, 2013.
After nearly 90 years James “Jim” Nordstrom was called to his eternal home on January 23, 2013. Jim was born in Kansas City to Gustav and Agnes Nordstrom. A US Army veteran of World War II, Jim served in Europe, landing on the shores of Normandy and enduring hardship at the Battle of the Bulge.
After the war, Jim married his life’s love, Verna, on November 2, 1946. More than 66 years of marriage to his cherished wife are a testament to Jim’s loyalty and caring for others. Jim and Verna had two children, David and Sheryl. Jim retired from Kansas City Power & Light after more than 30 years. In retirement, Jim was active in the VFW and church community. He enjoyed boating, reading history and politics, caring for his yard, and watching birds. He was a patriotic servant of his country, with trips to the nation’s capital and an Honor Flight in 2011 holding great significance for Jim.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Sheryl. Left to remember
Jim’s life are his beloved wife, Verna, his son and daughter-in-law, David and Deanna, his grandchildren, Larisa (and her spouse Brandon) and Eric, and his great- granddaughter, Cora, along with many dear friends and neighbors.
