Janeen Jill Good (Jett), 88, of Springfield, Missouri went to be with her Lord and Savior on August 19, 2024. She was born to James C. and Merrie Katherine (Moser) Jett on January 2, 1936, in Elliott, Iowa, but the young family soon moved to California where Janeen spent the first eighteen years of her life.
When visiting his brother while on leave, a handsome, young Navy sailor—Bill Good—met the “girl next door”—Janeen— and declared her the “love of his life”. It was the beginning of a 63-year long love story.
The couple married on December 6, 1953. Bill was honorably discharged from the Navy, and they moved to Houston, Texas, where they grew both their family and their faith. After serving God, their local church, and their community for many years in the Houston area, God called them to full-time ministry in 1971.
The couple ministered together at Stallings Drive Baptist Church in Nacogdoches, Texas for over thirteen years before moving to First Baptist Church in Greenfield, Missouri where they served for over twenty-five years. Mrs. Good was a faithful wife and help to her husband—devotedly filling not only her role as a pastor’s wife but also as a Christian school teacher and administrator. When age demanded retirement from full-time ministry, the Goods didn’t retire from serving God and others. Together, they were a blessing to the Berean Baptist Church in Springfield, Missouri until Rev. Good’s passing in 2016, and Janeen was a blessing to and well-loved by the congregation of South Campbell Avenue Baptist Church where she was a member for the final years of her life.
Mrs. Good is preceded in death by her parents, her brother James C. Jett, her son-in-law, Joseph Hamm and her beloved husband, Rev. William (Bill) Good. She is survived by a sister, Judith (Fab) Prater; a brother, Jerrell Jett; four children and their spouses—Dan and Cherrell Nelson, James and Donna Coppock, Randy and Yvette Good and Jill Hamm; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Thursday, August 22, 2024, from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. and the funeral service will follow. The services will be held at South Campbell Avene Baptist Church, Springfield, Missouri, with Pastor Joe Decker officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Building Fund at S. Campbell Ave. Baptist Church, 935 South Campbell Avenue, Springfield, MO 65806.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Greenlawn Funeral Home East.
