Janis Ruth Andrus Fuqua, age 69, died in Mercy Hospital on May 7, 2013 after a brief illness.
She was born June 8, 1943 in Mayfield, Ky. to the late Perry and Ena Andrus. She graduated from Farmington High School, Class of 1961. Janis married Ben David Fuqua on June 9, 1962 and they were blessed with nearly 51 years of marriage.
Janis was a very loving person who cared greatly for others. She retired from the Springfield School System as a Paraprofessional, working her entire career with the special kids at Delaware Elementary. Janis was a member of Schweitzer United Methodist Church and the Homebuilders Class. God got an angel, but she will be greatly missed by family and many friends.
Janis is survived by her husband, Ben Fuqua; her children: Allyson and Scott Nicholson, North Pole, Alaska, and Alicia and Aaron Farris, Tulsa, Okla. She was “Nanny” to her special grandchildren: David, Courtney, and Tyler Nicholson, and Rowdy and Dylan Farris. She is also survived by her brother, Charles (Jan) Andrus, New Orleans, La.; sister-in-law, Patricia Andrus, Sanford, N.C.; and a large number of nieces and nephews.
Janis was preceded in death by two brothers: Donnie and David.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, May 10 in Greenlawn Funeral Home East. The funeral will be held in Schweitzer United Methodist Church on Saturday, May 11 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastors Jim Mason, Clayton Smith, and Robert Casady presiding. Burial will be in Farmington Cemetery in Farmington, Ky.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Ben and Janis Fuqua Agricultural Scholarship Fund at MSU Foundation, The American Diabetes Association , the American Heart Association , or Schweitzer UMC.
