Jeanne Frances Komo, age 70, passed away in her home Friday, May 1, 2015. She was born February 20, 1945 in St. Louis, Missouri to Charles and Frances Weishaar. She was married on January 7, 1967 to Lawton H. Komo. She is preceded by her parents and her husband. She is survived by her three children Peggy Wise, Chris Komo and Chelle Thomas; granddaughters Emily Thomas, Christina Komo, Kaitlyn Wise and Sydney Komo; grandsons Thomas Komo and William Komo and great granddaughter Victoria Melugin.
After raising her children and having worked for years at Shriner’s Hospital in St. Louis and then St. John’s in Springfield, Jeanne returned to school, attending St. John’s School of Nursing to become a registered nurse in 1987 and then Drury and Southwest Baptist University to earn her BSN in 1993. She continued at St. John’s Hospital before moving into long term care by becoming Director of Nurses at several facilities in Ash Grove, Forsyth and Springfield. Jeanne continued her education earning certification as a Gerontology Nurse, CPR and First Aid Instructor and Red Cross Disaster Assistance.
Eventually she discovered her true passion, teaching and combined that with her love of nursing. She became the instructor for Foster’s Health Care Group and Christian Health Care, teaching CNA and CMT students, CPR and First Aid classes for more than 15 years. She was a generous, kind and compassionate woman who demonstrated those qualities daily to her family, friends and students. She was known to many students as “mom” and they were her “kids”.
Jeanne loved spending time with her family, reading, sewing, gardening and bird watching. One of her happiest places was sitting on the swing in her back yard listening to her birds.
Visitation is at Greenlawn North Funeral Home on Wednesday starting at 6:00 p.m. and the funeral service will be held Thursday, May 7, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home with burial to take place at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will host a gathering immediately following interment to celebrate Jeanne’s life with her family, friends and co-workers. Details will be available at the funeral home.
