Jerry Dale Abbey, age 70, of Springfield, Mo., passed away Saturday, March 19, 2011 at St. John’s Medical Center. He was born February 15, 1941, in Mountain View, Mo., to Emmitt and Frieda (Belew) Abbey.
He loved to fish and hunt and enjoyed telling stories and jokes.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Abbey; his parents, Emmitt Lawrence and Frieda Opal Abbey; three brothers, Bill Abbey, Jack Abbey, and John Abbey; and two sisters, Mary Koonce and Delores Holden.
He is survived by his four children, Rayne Rockwell of Lafayette LA, John Abbey and wife Jane of Springfield,Mo., Brenda Wright and husband Ron of Henry Il., and Aliysia Sullivan and husband Bill of Springfield; six grandchildren, BreAnna Reid, Ian Reid, Dalton Ruddle, Jennifer Abbey, and Colin and Courtney Sullivan; five brothers, Jim Abbey, Joe Abbey, Mike Abbey, Rodney Abbey, and Steve Abbey; three sisters, Pat Brown, Wanda King, and Diane Cowan, numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 28, 2011, at Northwest Baptist Church with Rev. Daryl Walker officiating. Burial will follow in Antioch Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 27, 2011 in Greenlawn Funeral Home North.
Because of Jerry’s love of the Abbey Farm, the family suggests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to a memorial that will be placed at the Abbey Farm Pond or a charity of the donors choice, in care of the funeral home.
