Jerry Wayne Martin, 75, son of Gerald and Juanita West Martin, went home to be with the Lord, May 2, 2013. Jerry is survived by his wife of 50 years, Nanette, his two daughters and their husbands. Shelly Abell and Ruben, Karen Witt and Rick. His two brothers and their wives. David Martin and Charlotte, Charles Martin and Michelle. There are two grandchildren, Ashley Abell Morrison and husband Steve and Anika Witt, 4 great grandchildren and three nieces and a nephew. Jerry has been a life- long resident of Springfield, graduating Senior High School in 1955 and attending Southwest Missouri State University. He began his working career in Data Processing in the years before personal computers. He spent many years as a Data Processing Manager first at Modern American Life Ins. Co., later at Litton Industries. He realized a lifelong dream of owning his own business with the purchase of Revelation Christian Bookstore. After that, he became a buyer for a chain of Christian Bookstores known as Bible Factory Outlet. From childhood Jerry was a member of Grant Avenue Baptist Church where he served in a number of leadership positions, including deacon. At the time of his passing, Jerry was a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church, where he enjoyed fellowship with members of his Faith Family. Jerry loved his life, his family and his friends. He will be greatly missed. Jerry served actively in U.S. Army from 1960 to 1962 and in the Army Reserves until 1966. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the American Lung Association. Services for Jerry will be held at Greenlawn South on Monday, May 6, 2013, at 12:30 pm., with Pastor Hosea Bilyeu officiating. Visitation with the family will be Sunday May 5, 2013, at Greenlawn South from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm. Burial will be at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Monday, May 6, 2013, at 2:00 pm., with full military honors.
