Jeweldene Bateman, 94, of Springfield, Mo., passed away on March 4, 2011 at 5:45 p.m., in Magnolia Square.
Jeweldene was born October 8, 1916, in Sparta, Mo., to Atlas and Mary Ann Osburn. Jeweldene was one of nine children born to this union. She attended schools at Sparta and Ozark.
Jeweldene married Knial Bateman on August 7, 1953, and was happily married for 46 years. Jeweldene was baptized into Christ early in her life, and was a long time member of the West and Lincoln Church of Christ.
Jeweldene had a passion for life and always had a smile on her face. Her happiest times were those spent with her family during the holidays and other celebrations. Jeweldene loved to shop and always took pride in looking her best.
Jeweldene enjoyed listening to country and gospel music and frequently attended various music shows and performances. Jeweldene also had a love for animals and, in her later years, loved the companionship of her cat, Bootsie.
Jeweldene was a blessing to all of those who knew her. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, a caring grandmother, and a caring great-grandmother. She loved her family dearly and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Jeweldene was preceded in death by her parents, Atlas and Mary Ann Osburn; husband, Knial Bateman; five brothers, Dewey, Dillard, Fred, Denver, Johnnie; and three sisters, Otie, Edna, and Clara. She is survived by her daughters, Donna Rothermel and her husband John, Debi Murphy and her husband Ron; two grandchildren, Lisa Fent and her husband Kevin, and Shawn Rothermel; and a great-granddaughter, Megan McCormack; long-time companion, Bootsie; and several nieces and nephews; along with a host of special friends, including Gerald Watkins, a faithful friend.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Thursday, March 10, in Greenlawn Funeral Home East with Ray Sullins officiating. Burial will be in Monger Cemetery near Sparta.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., on Wednesday, March 9, 2011 in the funeral home.
