Jill (Penland) Sue Elliott
Jill Sue Penland Elliott Jill Sue Penland Elliott, 45, of Bolivar, Mo., died peacefully on July 6, 2010 , following a courageous battle after undergoing open heart surgery in March. Her surgery repaired the damage that resulted from treatments over 20 years ago which ultimately allowed her to be a cancer survivor for so many years. She was born on January 12, 1965 in Springfield, Mo., to Bill Penland and Betty Robb Mowery. She married Greg Elliott on October 26, 1990 and they were blessed with one child, Jared Elliott on September 23, 1991. Jill devoted her life to these two men and would do anything for them. Jill has touched people’s lives in so many different ways over the years. As a cancer survivor, Jill has been inspired to help others with cancer. She began her career by providing radiation therapy to patients at KU Medical Center until 1996. After moving to Bolivar, she has served as the volunteer coordinator for CMH Hospice patients and most recently, over the past three years, her passion to care for people continued in her role as Director of Support Services for the newly founded Carrie J. Babb Cancer Center in Bolivar. Jill will be greatly missed by her family, many friends and co-workers. Jill is survived by her husband, Greg; son, Jared; parents, Betty Mowery and her husband Wayne, and Bill Penland and his wife Sammy; sister, Julie Horner and her husband Sam; mother-in-law, Dana Martin; three nieces and nephews. Jill was preceded in death by her grandparents and nephew. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m, on July 9, 2010 in Greenlawn Funeral Home North in Springfield. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., on July 10, in Eastlawn Cemetery in Springfield. In lieu of flowers, Greg and Jared have requested donations to be made to the Carrie J. Babb Cancer Center in Bolivar in honor of Jill.
