Jo Ann Frey, 89, Springfield, MO, formally of Moline, IL and Hilton Head, SC, died peacefully April 21 , 2024 at Cox Medical Center Springfield, MO. The family has entrusted  Greenlawn Funeral Home East with the arrangements. Cremation rites have been accorded. There will be a private burial service at a later date.

Jo Ann was born in Atchison, KS to Charles and Esther (Shoner) Bruce.

In her early years, she was employed at John Deere Harvester, East Moline, IL.

She married Dr. Robert Frey (Bob) December 15, 1965 which resulted in a blended family of seven children.

Jo Ann was creative, artistic and enthusiastic about her many hobbies, including painting, quilting, golf, tennis, and biking with their many bike friends. Ragbrai was especially memorable. But her true passion was her love of animals, especially her many dogs.

A few of the many clubs and organizations she belonged to were the Rock Island County Dental Auxiliary, the Carolyn Getz Circle of Kings Daughters and Dolphin Head Golf Club.

She is survived by her children, Mike Donnell (Moya) Bluffton, SC, Tom Leonard (Dawna) Springfield, MO. Stepchildren, Ruth Carver ( Bob), Richmond, VA, Marti Kernan (Jim), Moline,

IL. Five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband of 50 years, three siblings, stepsons Bob, Jim and Bill and grandson Jim Jaggers.

The family wishes to thank the staff at The Bungalows Assisted Living where she resided and Cox South Hospital for their companionate care in her final days.
