The Beloved Lord called upon Joan Kay Young to join him in Heaven on September 15, 2012 at the age of 66. Joan was born on September 1, 1946 in Wichita, KS. She was a loving and devoted Wife, Mother, Grandmother and friend, who will be greatly missed by all. She was the consummate veteran military wife, following her soldier husband for 21 years to various Army posts both stateside and in Europe, moving the household 27 times. She served for 20 years as the office manager / secretary to the Military Veterinary Clinics at both, Ft. Sheridan, IL and Great Lakes Navy Base, IL. She had a strength and stubbornness about her that resonated through all those who knew her; strength in her faith, strength in her convictions, strength for her family, and strength in her most recent battle with cancer. She enjoyed laughing with family and friends, and being surrounded by nature, whether in the mountains, in Missouri, or in her garden. Watching birds, and especially hummingbirds, brought her such peace and joy. How fitting, that she is now in the Kingdom of Heaven, flying with the Angels.
She is predeceased by her Father and Mother, Mr. & Mrs. Daniel A. Gasaway, and Brother, Mr. Dean Gasaway.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Mr. Chester Scott Young, of Branson, and two children, Michelle Garza and husband Mark, and Scott Wesley Young and wife Kirsten, all from San Antonio, TX. She is also survived by two brothers, Mr. Max L. Gasaway of Springfield, MO and Mr. Glen R. Gasaway of Emporia, KS. She is also survived by 4 Grandchildren, Kirstyn, Haley, Isabella and Brayden, 4 Nieces, and 3 Nephews. We all look forward to the day when our family will reunite in our Lord’s Kingdom.
A memorial service will be held at the Old Stone Church, 420 West Main Street, Branson, MO on Saturday, September 22 at 11:00 AM. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Anglican Church Building Fund in Joan’s memory.
