John Charles McAtee, born on June 19, 1945, in Springfield, Missouri, joyfully departed from this world on January 24, 2026. He lived a life filled with love, resilience, and deep connections, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished by all who knew him.
John, a devoted husband to Alvina “Vera” McAtee, married the love of his life on June 4, 1965, in Springfield. He was a proud father to his son, Daryl McAtee, and his daughter, Summer Reynolds, who both carry forward his spirit and values. He is survived by his beloved brother, Mike McAtee, with whom he shared the joyful hobby of raising pigeons-an activity that brought them both great happiness throughout their lives, additional survivors include 12 Grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Becky McAtee; along with a host of family and friends. John was preceded in death by his son, Darin McAtee and his parents John and Charlotte McAtee.
For over 25 years, John dedicated himself to pastoring churches, touching countless lives with his compassion and guidance. John’s favorite scripture was Psalm 91. His warmth extended beyond the pulpit; those who enjoyed his culinary skills will fondly remember the delicious meals he prepared, showcasing his nurturing spirit. Friends and family alike will recall the laughter and joy he brought into every gathering.
A graduate of Parkview High School, John pursued a career as a cabinet maker in the carpentry industry, where his craftsmanship reflected the love and care he poured into every project. His hands built not only furniture but also lasting memories and strong bonds.
A celebration of John’s life, will be held Thursday, February 12, 2026, at Greenlawn Funeral Home North, 3506 North National Avenue, Springfield, MO 65803, where all are invited to honor his contributions and share their memories.
