John Clinton Parris, Sr., age 80, of Springfield, passed away Saturday, November 19, 2011 in his home. He was born January 7, 1931 in Chattanooga, TN, to Homer and Viola (Williams) Parris. He was a member of Berean Baptist Church where he was a faithful servant. He served in the United States Air Force for over 22 years, retiring as a MSGT. John enjoyed playing golf, wood working, and crossword puzzles.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter, Cara Sylvester and one brother, Bobby Parris. He is survived by his wife, Betty Jean Parris of the home; four children, Dianne Daugherty and husband John of Springfield, John Parris, Jr. and wife Marcia of Chattanooga, TN, Vicki Foster and husband David of Claremore OK and Sheryl Galvez and husband Daniel of Plano, TX.; eleven grandchildren; ten great- grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; two sisters, Joyce Wofford and husband Bill of Collegedale TN. and Roxie Jennings of Knoxville TN.; and a host of friends and family.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, November 23, 2011, in Berean Baptist Church with Rev. Cecil Tolbert and Bro. Fred Reamsnider officiating. Burial will be held in Missouri Veterans Cemetery will full Military honors. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 22, 2011 in Greenlawn Funeral Home North.
