John H. Cox, Springfield, age 85, the son of Herman and Dora Cox, was born April 30, 1925 in Springfield and passed from this life at 11:45 P.M., Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at The Maples.
He attended Springfield Schools and was a graduate of Drury College in 1950. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of W.W.II and the Korean Conflict. He was an employee of Klingner Mortuary from 1943 to 1964, at which time he became Manager of Greenlawn Funeral Home North, in 1966 when operations began. In 1981, he assumed managerial duty, as manager of Greenlawn Funeral Home South, where he worked until his retirement in 2005. He was also a member of Sunset Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
John is survived by his wife, Beaulah Marie (Chilton) Cox of 64 years; son, John Malcom Cox and wife Nancy; Marilyn Cox Wise and husband Ted, all of Springfield, MO.; sister, Martha Clemens and husband Darlo, LaJolla, CA.; six grandchildren, Steven Cox and wife Gerri, Robyn Munson and husband Patrick, Brian Cox and wife Heather, Kris Wise and wife Jennifer, Wes Wise and wife Gina, and Braden Wise; and ten great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, March 21, 2011, in Greenlawn Funeral Home South, Springfield, MO with Joe Bright and Dennis Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens with full Military Honors. Visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 P.M. on Sunday, March 20, 2011 in Greenlawn Funeral Home South.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Fair Haven Children’s Home, Strafford, Missouri.
