John Phillips, age 56, of Springfield, passed away on March 6, 2024, peacefully, in his sleep at his residence. John was born to Willard Phillips and Barbara Harmon of Fair Grove, August 10, 1968, in Springfield, Missouri. He was raised in Fair Grove, was a member of Fair Grove Baptist Church, and graduated from Fair Grove High School in 1986. Following high school, John was employed by Dillon’s Foods Stores and over the course of his career, John held positions at Sweetheart Cup, Ashley Furniture, University Plaza, and Sunbelt Environmental.
When not working, he had many interests and pastimes including fishing, golf, motorcycles, rock & roll, and collecting sports memorabilia. Nothing, however, brought him more fulfilment than spending time in the woods with his dog Joe and his chain saw, cutting firewood for his friends and family. John will be remembered as a strong willed, kind, caring, and compassionate man with a love for his family, his pets, sports, and the outdoors. He was often described by others as a “good ol’ boy” that would do anything for you. John was very passionate about Chief’s football and had considered being a high school football coach in his younger years. John was always there to help a friend in need, even offering his home as temporary housing for folks that needed a place to stay. John was very thoughtful and caring of others and had a memory like no other and was very skillful at putting together crossword puzzles.
John was proceeded in death his father, Willard Phillips; sister-in-law, Debi Phillips, and his dog Joe. He is survived by his mother, Barbara Phillips and brother Clay Phillips.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Good Friday, March 29, 2024, 5:00 pm, at Fellows Lake 4200 E. Farm Road 66 Springfield, MO 65803. The event will be held near the silo on the north side of the lake. Snacks and refreshments will be provided. We would ask that come as you are and bring any photos, memories, or good stories that you can share with the attendees.
