John Leroy Hildebrandt, age 89 of Springfield, born March 5, 1921 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to the late Charles and Clara (Wutkowski) Hildebrandt passed away on July 19, 2010.
After graduating high school he attended Marquette University and graduated from Notre Dame in 1943 and played on their National Championship football team. He then served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps as an officer during WWII in the South Pacific and was honorably discharged.
Before her death in 1950, John was married to Marian Monahan, who gave him a son, Chris. On November 30, 1951 he was united in marriage to Edith Jaworski and to this union two children were born, David and Pat.
John practiced law for over 30 years and retired from Hildebrandt and Smith in the early 80s. He enjoyed sports including football, swimming, golf, and won several medals in the Senior Olympics. He loved spending time with his family and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
John and his family attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church for over 40 years and a sizeable donation will be made in his memory. The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the church as well.
Survivors include his loving wife of the home, Edith; children, Chris Hildebrandt and wife Elizabeth of Jefferson City, David Hildebrandt and wife Sheila of Atlanta, GA, and Pat Triplett and husband Scott of Golden City, MO; and six grandchildren; one sister Gloria Jennaro and husband Ted of Fox Point, WI; and numerous other relatives and a host of friends.
A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, July 22, 2010 at 9:30 am at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father Lewis Hejna officiating. Inurnment will follow at 11:00 am at Missouri Veterans Cemetery with military honors provided.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Greenlawn South Funeral Home.
