John L. (J.L.) Hood, age 90, Bolivar, passed away on Monday morning, April 22, 2013, in his home.
He was born January 11, 1923, in Glendale, Arizona, the son of Huston and Julia Hood. J.L.’s family moved to Bolivar where he attended school at Goodson and later married Charlene Keith. They moved to California where he joined the Navy, serving 4 years during WW II on the Saratoga in the Pacific. He returned to Bolivar, where he and Charlene worked side by side on their dairy farm for over 40 years, before retiring.
Survivors include one son, Larry Keith Hood and his wife Kay of Springfield; one daughter, Linda Sue Ware and husband Jim of Bolivar; 4 grandchildren, Sheila Anderson and husband Kyle of Bolivar, Brent Hood and wife Ramona of Springfield, Angie Cox and husband Michael of Republic, and Seth Ware of Columbia. His son, Derald Joe Hood preceded him in death in December, 1970 and wife Charlene in October of 2008.
Not so long ago, J.L. enjoyed fishing and hunting quail. He was a man who loved his family unconditionally, gave freely, and was an inspiration to his children, grandchildren, and even his great grandchildren. He was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church and was saved at an early age. We will miss him, but take great comfort in knowing that our separation is only temporary and he will be waiting for each one of us at the gates of Heaven.
