Joseph (Polo) Anthony Polowczyk
August 24, 1951 – May 25, 2022
Joseph (Polo) Anthony Polowczyk passed away peacefully from this life in his home with partner, Karen by his side.
He was preceded in death by his parents Alvin and Lottie Polowczyk, his sister Mary Paris and his 5-year-old grandson Gabe Lowry.
Joe was born and grew up in Chicago where he graduated from Gordon Tech. He came to Missouri in the early 70’s and worked for Greene County Highway Department where he retired after forty years, having formed many enduring friendships. He was a member of Soloman No. 271 in Republic, MO.
Joe enjoyed going every year to Hot Springs when the horse race track opened and would often try to make it for opening weekend. He planned several trips to St. Louis during the summer and was a Cardinals fan, unless of course they played the Cubs. He also enjoyed going to the Indy 500 Racetrack.
Chicago was a big part of his life and he loved visiting family there. There was always a trip through the old neighborhood, a drive by Wrigley Field and a game if possible and a visit to the neighborhood Polish Deli.
Music was a big part of Joe’s life and he saw many great bands live, most recently Santana in Rogers, Arkansas. He enjoyed his life.
Joe leaves behind Karen Lowry, his sweetheart of nearly twenty years, a daughter Heidi (Brian) Ames of Seattle and their children Liam and Jude; a stepson Alex Lowry of Springfield and his children Lexie and Ray; sister Allyn (Jack) Stanley of Mundelein and nieces and nephews: Shane Johnson of Warsaw, NY, Kate Stanley of Chicago, IL, Scott Stanley of Mundelein, IL, Carly Stanley of Kona, Big Island, HI, Ryan Allen of Chicago, IL and Luke Paris of Wheeling, IL.
Special thanks to the staff who cared for him at the Hulston Center in Springfield. He put up a good fight. Joe touched many lives and will be remembered and missed by many.
A Celebration of Life will be held June 24 at 2 pm at Unity of Springfield, 2214 E Seminole, Springfield, MO. A gathering will follow in Fellowship Hall.
