Joe Post passed away on August 12, 2012 at the age of 90 years. He was born on May 12, 1922 in Chicago, Illinois. Joe was educated in the Chicago school system and attended Northwestern University. He was an Eagle Scout, attended the first Scout Jamboree in Washington, DC. and participated in the first Boys State in Illinois. Joe served in the Army Ski Troops during World War II.
Joe was one of the original pioneers in the McDonald restaurant chain, starting in Chicago in 1955 when there was just one store in operation. He started the first McDonald restaurant in Florida and later opened five restaurants in Springfield, Missouri where he retired in 1992. He was recognized by the McDonald Corporation with the Ronald McDonald award of recognition of civil involvement in the city of Springfield. Joe was the founder of the Ronald McDonald House of the Ozarks and was its first president.
Joe was the past president of the Board of Directors of Cox Health Systems and served as a Director of the Board for twenty five years.
Joe is survived by his wife Marilyn Post and four children, Jeffrey, Jennifer and Phillip Post and Caroline Netzer. Two step-daughters, Lesa Maloon and Cheri Hodson; Nine grand children and three step-grand children and a sister Lillian Turner.
Funeral services for Joe will be at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, August 16, 2012 in Greenlawn Funeral Home East. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 15, 2012 in the funeral home.
