Joseph William Petteway, age 84, of Springfield, MO, passed away Monday, December 20, 2010, at St. John’s Medical Center. He was born October 16, 1926, in Sapulpa, OK, to Michael and Mary (Catts) Petteway. He was a member of the South Gate Baptist Church. He is a US Army WWII Veteran. He was united in marriage to Ruby Clark January 27, 1950. He Received his bachelor of Arts Degree from Oklahoma Baptist University; Master of Education from University of Missouri, and a Specialist in Education from the University of Missouri. He loved gospel music, sang in the church choir, traveled widely, but his greatest joy was in his grandsons.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife Ruby Petteway of the home; one son Glen Petteway and his wife Becky of Fordland, MO; one daughter Carol McCall and her husband Neil of Springfield, MO; four grandsons: Drew Petteway and his wife Ann of Pittsburg, PA, Austin Petteway, Cory McCall, and Mason McCall all of Springfield, MO; and one great granddaughter; as well as many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, December 23, 2010, at Greenlawn Funeral Home South, Springfield, MO with Rev. Nolan Carrier officiating. Burial will follow in Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield, MO. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday, December 22, 2010 in the funeral home.
