Josephine King, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on November 9, 2023, in Springfield, MO at the age of 91. Born to Louis McKinley and Grace Ann (Blakey) Dean, she was the sixth and final child born to the couple. Josephine was a cherished member of the community, leaving behind a legacy of love and care.
In 1950 Josephine and her young daughter, Joan, moved from their small Taney County hometown to Springfield, Missouri looking for new opportunities and adventures. She soon met the love of her life and was united in marriage to George Burl King on November 1,1955, celebrating 32 years of marriage together until his passing. Josephine touched the lives of many through her vibrant personality and unwavering dedication to her family. Her beautiful auburn-red hair was a reflection of her spirited nature, and her loyalty to her loved ones knew no bounds. Josephine’s caring and nurturing spirit shone bright as she selflessly offered help to others, always asking if they needed assistance.
Throughout her life, Josephine exemplified independence and hard work. Beyond her work, Josephine found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She possessed a remarkable talent for crocheting and spent countless hours creating beautiful blankets that served as symbols of love and warmth for her family.
Josephine is survived by her beloved daughter, Joan Wilson, along with her son-in-law, Richard Wilson. She will be dearly missed by her four cherished grandchildren and their spouses as well as her 13 beloved great-grandchildren. Josephine’s presence in their lives brought immeasurable joy, and her memory will forever be treasured.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George King; her parents Louis and Grace Dean; and her five siblings.
In the days to come, friends and family are invited to celebrate Josephine’s remarkable life. Graveside services will be held at Eastlawn Cemetery in Springfield, MO on Thursday, November 16, 2023, at 1:00 pm where she will be laid to rest next to her late husband.
Josephine King’s departure leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew her, but her spirit will continue to live on through the memories she created. She will be remembered as a compassionate, resilient, and fiercely loving individual who left an indelible mark on the lives of those fortunate enough to have known her.
In honor of Josephine’s memory, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
