Joyce Ellen Casso Silver, 74, of Springfield, MO went home on Oct. 16th, 2014. She was born to Michael and Anna (Zollo) Casso on July 11, 1940 in Brooklyn, NY.
At the age of eight, she invited Christ into her heart and began a life of faithful service and devotion to her Lord. Following her childhood dream, she attended Queens General Hospital School of Nursing to earn her RN. Later, she would complete a bachelors Degree in Nursing at Evangel College. She worked as a charge nurse, clinical instructor of thoracic nursing, and school nurse.
Joyce was passionate about attending the house of God and served as church pianist and organist, Sunday School teacher and superintendent, and board member. In 1999, she was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer. Undaunted by her diagnosis, her strong faith in God and her knowledge of His Word sustained and strengthened her throughout her 15-year battle with her disease. Turning her “lemons” into lemonade, she organized and led a cancer support group first in Marlton Assembly of God, Marlton, NJ and then at Central Assembly of God, Springfield, MO. Recently she served as a faithful member of the Evangel University Ladies Auxiliary.
Joyce is survived by her husband, Gerald, of 41 years; her daughter, Naomi
(Marlon) Reyes; and her son David (Lisa) Silver. She is also survived by two sisters, Judy (Matt) DiGiandomenico and Ruth (Fred) Setzer, a niece Carin (TJ) Shemeley, and great-nephew Xander Brown. She leaves behind a large number of cousins, and extended family members.
Her exemplary devotion to Christ has impacted the lives of those who were privileged to know and love her. She will be sorely missed and forever in our hearts. Joyce has “passed through Glory’s gate, and walks in Paradise.”
Visitation will be at Greenlawn Funeral Home-East Springfield, MO from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 21, 2014.
