Judith Ann Scott, a beloved educator and cherished member of the Springfield community, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2025, at the age of 84. Born on February 27, 1940, in Springfield, MO, Judy dedicated her life to enriching the minds and spirits of her students and those around her.
Judy graduated from Central High School in Springfield then earned her bachelor’s degree at Southern Missouri State. Judy devoted her career to the noble field of education, teaching at Springfield Public Schools for 31 years and Republic Public Schools and Hickman Mills Schools each for one year. With her passion for knowledge and unwavering kindness, she became a mentor to countless students, leaving an indelible mark on their lives.
She was united in marriage to Marvin Franklin Scott on June 13, 1969. Together they built a life of devotion to each other and to their faith.
In addition to her remarkable contributions to education, Judy was a founding member of the Antioch Methodist Church. She proudly participated in the first service held under a tent before the church was constructed, demonstrating her commitment to her faith and community. Judy served on numerous church committees and enriched the lives of many as a Sunday School teacher and a devoted choir singer, sharing her love for music and teaching with joy and enthusiasm.
Judy was met in heaven by her beloved husband Marvin Scott, her parents, and a brother-in-law, Bob Race.
Judith is survived by her stepson Mike Scott, Springfield, MO, stepdaughter Brenda Johnson and her husband, Melvin of Arlington, TX; six grandchildren, Chance, Lindsey, Brooke, Michael, Jesse and Madison; five great-grandchildren Ajah, Noah, Savannah, Silas and Mason; her sister, Linda Race, of Billings, MO; her special nephew Todd Race, Erika; and her great nephew and niece, Evelyn and Grayson all of Clever, MO, who will carry forward her legacy of compassion, service, and devotion to others.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Thursday, January 23, 2025, from 5:00-7:00 pm at Greenlawn Funeral Home, North. Funeral services for Judith Ann Scott will be held on Friday, January 24, 2025, also at the funeral home beginning at 1:00 PM. Burial will immediately follow in White Chapel Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the Antioch Methodist Church or to local educational charities in her memory, continuing the spirit of giving that defined Judy’s life.
Judith Ann Scott will be remembered for her unwavering dedication, her nurturing heart, and her enduring influence on the lives she has forever changed. May she rest in peace.
