Julia Pearl Stokes, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on Monday, April 6, 2026.
Born on August 5, 1942, to John and Pearle Pyles, Julia was raised with her brother, John Calvin Pyles.
Julia’s life was filled with love and companionship. She was married to Jerry Lee Stokes for almost 61 years. Their love story began on a blind date, and they were married on August 13, 1965. From that moment on, they were inseparable.
Julia’s passion for nursing led her to pursue her education and become a Registered Nurse. She worked for several doctors in Springfield, Missouri, including Dr. Stewart and Dr. Marr, before joining the nursing team at Lester E. Cox North. For over 30 years, Julia dedicated her life to nursing, primarily in surgery. Her fascination with the human body and her desire to improve lives drove her to explore every opportunity to make a difference.
Julia’s love for her family was unwavering. She was cherished by her two sons, Stuart and Aaron Stokes, and her daughter, Jennifer Cordray. She also had four grandchildren, Madilyn Holtkamp and Bella Stokes, and three grandsons, Samuel Cordray, River Stokes, and Rain Stokes. Julia was also proud to be a great-grandmother to Baker Holtkamp.
After retiring, Julia devoted her time to her family, becoming the primary caretaker of her husband. She found joy in spending time outdoors and was a devoted member of her church community. Julia was always willing to serve wherever she could, whether it was at church or in her extended family gatherings. She eagerly anticipated the annual Price reunion in Arkansas, where she would catch up with her cousins and reminisce about their childhood.
Julia is survived by Husband Jerry, son Stuart (Rebecca Loftis Stokes), son Aaron (MJ Jamil), daughter Jennifer (Ben Cordray) and daughter-in-law Christal Stokes.
Five grandchildren, Madi (Husband John), Bella, Samuel, River and Rain, One great grandchild, Baker.
Her brother John Calvin Pyles (Jeanne) lives in St. Louis MO.
The family is asking that in leu of flowers to make a donation in Julia’s memory to Hickory Ridge Baptist Church 1311 E Valley Water Mill Rd. Springfield Mo. 65803. This will be distributed to their missionary work.
