Kenneth Steven Holder, or Steve as he was known best, 77, passed away peacefully at home on September 29, 2026, surrounded by the love and care of his wife, Connie.
Steve was born on August 8, 1949. His life was filled with family, friendship, hard work, a love for animals, and a genuine kindness that made people feel welcome.
He and Connie celebrated 55 years of marriage on September 24, 2026. Their story began at a drive-in in Abilene, Texas, where Kenneth was stationed at the Air Force base and Connie had moved to Texas for work. The two quickly found something special in one another. Steve loved Connie’s heart and personality, and she was especially drawn to his wonderful smile.
When Steve was deployed to Vietnam, Connie returned to Springfield and stayed with his parents until he came home. He had made it clear that he didn’t want to get married before deployment, just in case something happened to him. So, when he finally returned home, they didn’t waste much time-they were married the very next day. After waiting through a deployment, they had waited long enough.
Steve proudly served his country in the United States Air Force as a B-52 mechanic. Following his military service, he began working at a machine shop as a general laborer. Through years of hard work and dedication, he worked his way up to become a supervisor-a position that earned him the respect and appreciation of those who worked with him. He remained with the company for 35 years before retiring. After retirement, he stayed busy by driving a van for 166 Auto Auctions, helping the guys pick up cars.
Those who knew Steve knew that he simply loved people. He welcomed people of all kinds and had a particularly special place in his heart for children. He also had a tremendous love for animals, especially dogs. Somehow, even the meanest dog seemed to know that Kenneth was good people. Dogs just seemed to love him, and he loved them right back.
Steve was also a devoted sports fan, especially when it came to the Kansas City Chiefs and Seattle Seahawks. His love for Seattle may have had something to do with his son Corey and daughter-in-law Maya making their home there. He wasn’t much of an athlete himself-he was, by his family’s account, a little too klutzy for that-but he certainly enjoyed watching the games.
Above all, he will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father, kindhearted friend, and a genuinely good man. His warm smile, easygoing personality, love for people and animals, and the life he built alongside Connie will remain cherished by those who knew and loved him.
Steve is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Connie Holder; his son, Corey Holder, and Corey’s wife, Maya; along with many friends and loved ones who will miss him dearly.
His family takes comfort in knowing that Kenneth was at home, in the place he loved, under the loving care of his wife, Connie, as he completed his remarkable 77 years of life.
