Kenneth J. (Jake) Peters, 73, was called home to join the Lord he loved so much after a three year battle with cancer on Thursday, January 6, 2011, in the home he built for his family. Jake was born in Morgan, Mo., on March 10, 1937, the son of Otto and Bessie Peters.
He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Leon Barefield; brothers, Pete, Jerald and Jim Peters; sister-in-law, Helen Peters; and nephew, Mark Schultz.
Jake worked hard all of his life as a carpenter building and remodeling many houses in the Springfield area. In his later years, he spent much of his time working out of Springfield Mill and Lumber. He treasured the many special relationships he made with all the people he worked for.
Jake is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Lou (Barefield), who will miss him deeply; three daughters, Melinda Brown and husband Ben, Lori Allen and husband Creed, Angela Love and husband Ahren; six grandchildren, Michael, Claire, Emily, Malorie, Tyler, and Addison; a sister, Bonnie June Schultz and husband Lloyd; brother, Howard Peters and wife Bonnie; many nephews, nieces, and good friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., January 10th, in Redeemer Lutheran Church, Springfield, where he was a faithful member. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, January 9, in Greenlawn Funeral Home North.
