LaVerne Edward Skouby was born June 6, 1931 in Bland, Missouri and died March 4, 2011.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen Skouby; three children, Brett Skouby and wife Eileen Skouby, Paula Turner and husband Tim, Karla Holdier and husband Paul; stepson, Kenneth Shuler and wife Sherry; brother, Larry Skouby; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
LaVerne spent his boyhood in Winfield, Mo., moving to Springfield with his parents, Jesse and Reva at age 15, where he graduated from Springfield (Central) High School. He worked for Brooks Potato Chip Company and continued there after its acquisition by Frito Lay, retiring after 28 years. Although inactive with two organizations he held admiration and respect for, LaVerne wanted his affiliation with them mentioned upon his death: Gate of the Temple Blue Lodge and Elks Lodge 409.
Services will be in Greenlawn Funeral Home North, Monday, March 7, 2011. Visitation will be from 12 to 1 p.m. before service, in the funeral home.
